Maternity Leave
Priya Ramjuttun, Programs Assistant, will be on maternity leave beginning February 15. Livres Canada Books is engaged in a recruitment process and will announce the name of the Programs Assistant who will join our team in the next newsletter.
Family Day 2011
The Livres Canada Books office will be closed on Monday, February 21 observing Family Day in Ontario.
Mentoring Program - France-Switzerland-Belgium 2010-2011
Guidelines for the Mentoring Program for France Switzerland and Belgium are now available online. This program for beginner exporters will include market intelligence on the publishing conditions in these three European markets; a discussion with a consultant on the eligible publisher's export strategy and ways to increase sales. The publisher will also have the opportunity to meet with European publishers, distributors and/or wholesalers. This program is being held in French only.

Digital Book World 2011
Livres Canada Books will attend the Digital Book World conference in New York City from January 24-26. The talks we're most anticipating include two panel discussions titled, Rethinking Rights in a Transmedia World and Will Territorial Sales Become Obsolete?. There are also some really interesting sessions on metadata and a focus on children's publishing that will allow us to bring back insider knowledge of the children's book market in the US. Plus, if there's any space in the session room, we're going to hear Abe Murray of Google talk about what's new in the land of Google Editions. Bologna Children's Book Fair (March 28-31, 2011)
Livres Canada Books will be hosting 6 publishers this year on the Canada Stand. Space is still available on the Canada Stand for those who wish to register for the pied-à-terre option. To register, please refer to our website. Shipping instructions along with the memo, will be sent out shortly.

BolognaRagazzi Award
Open to Bologna Children's Book Fair exhibitors only, the BolognaRagazzi Award aims to highlight the most innovative children's and young adults' books published in the last two years all over the world, as selected by an international jury at the beginning of February. The prizes are awarded in the following sectors: fiction, non-fiction, new horizons, and Opera Prima, which is dedicated to first works.
Winners will be listed on the Bologna Children's Book Fair website, and during the fair, will be showcased at the most strategic locations. The titles will consequently be displayed and promoted to international and professional targets.
The deadline to submit applications for the award is January 30, 2011. Visit the Bologna Children's Book Fair website where entry forms and competition regulations are available.
TOCBologna: The Conference for Children's Digital Book Publishing
The Bologna Children's Book Fair and O'Reilly Media are teaming up to organize the first conference in children's digital book publishing on Sunday, March 27, 2011
The event is scheduled on the day before the opening of the fair to allow for participation of all those thinking about digital, doing digital or just wanting to know more about digital books, rights, or platforms in the children's book world. Registration and programme details are now available online.

London Book Fair (April 11-13, 2011)

30 % discount exclusive to the 2011 London Book Fair!
Publishers have until January 24, 2011 to take advantage of this year's exclusive stand price, offered at a 30% discount, in order to join us on the Canada stand and have their name listed in the fair's catalogue for the London Book Fair 2011. The 80 square metre stand will provide participating publishers with a display area, meeting space, and will also exhibit of titles from Canadian publishers who provided books for the pay-per-title display. Book Expo America (May 23-26, 2011)
Book Expo America 2011 will be taking place in New York at the Jacob K. Javits Center, from May 23 to 26. However, Livres Canada Books will not be attending this year. To learn more about Book Expo America, visit the revamped website here.
Frankfurt Book Fair (October 12-16, 2011)
From October 12 to 16, 2011, Frankfurt will once again become the meeting place for the entire publishing industry. We are currently working on finalizing participation options and costs for the Canada Stand. Invitations to register will be sent in early February. 2011-2012 FRMAP and Mentoring - Funding Support - Application Deadline Friday, April 1, 2011
The program guidelines and application forms for FRMAP and the Mentoring - Funding Support program for 2011 are now available online. Applicants should be sure to print out the PDF form once it has been completed; unless your company has the appropriate software, the PDF files cannot be saved after the forms have been completed. Breakwater Books
Breakwater Books has sold German rights for the debut novel, The Widows of Paradise Bay, by Jill Sooley. The deal was signed after a lengthy auction to btb Random House, based in Munich. Btb Random House publishes authors from around the world including Margaret Atwood, Frank McCourt, and Haruki Murakami.
Tradewind Books
In a recent sales trip to New York, Tradewind Books sold rights to the picture book The Mouse that Saved Egypt to Interlink Publishing Group.
